Williamson - James 1903

Crawfordsville Daily, Monday, March 16, 1903

The death of Rev. James Williamson occurred rather suddenly yesterday morning at eight-thirty o'clock at his home on east Main street.  For several weeks Rev. Williamson has been feeling somewhat ill but until Saturday he has not been bedfast.  Saturday morning apoplectic tendencies became noticeable and in a short time he was stricken.  He displayed a wonderful vitality and the end did not come until yesterday morning. The funeral will occur tomorrow morning at ten o'clock at the home conducted by Rev. H.L. Nave, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of this city.  The pallbearers will be Mr. Williamson's four sons and two nephews, Arthur Williamson of greenfield and Edward E. Jones of Indianapolis.

James Williamson was born in Frankton, Ontario, Canada, and was sixty-one years of age.  With his parents he came to Hancock county, Indiana in 1858.  He received his education at Hanover college from which institution he graduated in 1869.  He then attended Lane seminary and after graduation there he was ordained a minister in 1871.  On February 11, 1875, Mr. Williamson was married to Miss Martha E. Lowes and to them seven children were born, four of whom, Hugh, Will, Robert, and Louis are still living, all residing here except Will who is now located in Indianapolis.

In his life as a minister, Mr. Williamson has presided over a number of congregations in this state and for long continued service with one charge, he has an enviable record.  For seventeen years he was pastor of the Plagah Presbyterian church, at the same time having work at Acton and other places. - thanks to Kim H
